I’m Alexis Bousamra, and I’m a physician specialized in Surgical Pathology. I moved from Lebanon to the US in 2009 to complete a residency program at University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR. I also completed 2 fellowships (Surgical Oncologic Pathology and Breast Pathology) at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
I’m also in the business of making other people grow.
Professional growth, personal growth, and financial growth.
Using money as the driving force, I will show you how you can grow and achieve your goals, whatever they might be.
But there is one thing I learned from personal experience and from working with others: You have to want it.
I learned that, when it comes to money, no one is going to do it for you, and no one is going to care as much about your hard-earned money as you: Not your parents, not your partner, not your friends or neighbors. You’ve got to be the one who decides to invest in yourself.
I believe that we are alike in so many ways, yet each one of us is unique. We perceive things differently, so there is no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to what we strive for in our lives. Not surprisingly, each one of us manages their finances differently.
Over the past few years, I learned to be unapologetically myself, while continuing to grow every day. I want to improve the current version of myself, while, at the same time, embracing the current version of myself.
- I want to accept my mistakes and learn from them. I have made mistakes in my relationships (friends and family), in my career as a surgical pathologist, and with my finances.
- I also had many triumphs that I made sure to celebrate (either with a happy dance, a delicious meal or a special trip). I made incredible memories with family members and close friends that I love dearly. I completed 15 years of training before landing my dream job. I have set up a financial system that allows me to enjoy the things I love to do with the people I love, while continuing to build a ridiculous level of wealth.
When I came to the US in 2009 with big dreams to achieve, I had very little knowledge of the concept of money and the US financial system. I didn’t even know how a credit card works, and I thought retirement accounts are for older people. I was 27 at the time.
I sometimes wonder what my life would look like if I learned the basics of personal finance back when I was a resident. However, I learned it’s a pointless exercise: Each one of us has their own journey with money. For some people, their journey trends upwards. For others, it painfully stagnates and for others it takes the shape of a downward spiral.
I’m so grateful that my financial journey took an upward trajectory (an exponential one at that thanks to the magic of compounding).
It wasn’t until late 2018 that I started to truly learn about how the US financial system functions. I have to thank one of my residents for that: She let me borrow her book (“I Will Teach You to be Rich”, by Ramit Sethi), and, as they say, the rest is history.
It’s a cliche to say that one book changed my life. But guess what: Cliches often work!
I’ve been growing at a tremendous pace ever since. And I’m really enjoying the whole process!
I love who I have become as a person.
I love where I am going.
And I know that there is more to come: More time with family and close friends, more unforgettable trips to new parts of Earth, more achievements in my career, more tennis, workouts and reading books.
More money to let me do all of the above. What would you want money to do for you?
My stock continues to skyrocket. With DRS, I’d love to share what I’ve learned with others. It doesn’t matter who you are and what you do. For your stock to rise, the only thing you need is to want more for yourself.
